It is important that I take into account the appropriate conventions to ensure I have the best design that is suitable for my audience.
- Left Third: This is small icons of pictures or text found on the left hand side that show what the magazine consists of.
- Font: Serif and Sans serif are the two font types that will help contribute to my text. Sans serif is a more modern font type and is bolder. This font type would me the better option taking into consideration my audience. However, the serif font type is more traditional and I can use this if I chose.
- Dateline: This is the date to inform the reader when the magazine is for.
- Bar code and Price: These are mainly positioned on the front page so the audience can quickly see how much it costs.
- Pull quote: A quotation from the interview sometimes is placed on the front page to draw the reader in to reading the story. The pull quote is usually consisted in the story.
- Main image: this is always the key aspect of the front page as it is what gives people the implication on what the genre is, who the magazine is aimed at and what may be included in it.
- Cover line: This is the main text on the front page.
- Puff: Anything placed on the front cover that is good and may be included in the magazine. Such as an advertisement for vouchers that will be found on a particular page.
- Use of colour: the colour suggests who the magazine is aimed at. Also, it can give the implication to what the content is about.
- Issue number: This is useful to inform the reader on what number copy the magazine is at. Further to this, it is beneficial for people who chose to collect the magazine as it can contribute to their collection.
- Plug: Something found on the front page of the magazine that advertises an extract included in the magazine.
- Numbers: this could be consisted in a sub headline for example '10 reasons why you should go to the gym' which hocks people into reading.
- Masthead: The title of a magazine. Sometimes it may change colour however the font remains the same as it is a way of recognising the magazine.
